Do you know what I have?
A VERY healthy body (it's tired sometimes, but that's fixable.)
A roof over my head.
An adoring person to share my life, dreams, and goals with.
Two parents that are young, healthy, and vibrant. (And still married. I'm sad that this is an accomplishment nowawadays, but either way, you both have been through SO much already in your lives and to go through it together and act like you do it so gracefully is a beautiful thing and I am proud to be your daughter.)
A precious kitty cat who reminds me about the joys of waking up early (and also reminds me that I don't need any human children for..quite a few years.)
A brand new car. How many twenty-somethings can say that?
A job. Although I'll complain about the hours on a daily basis...I have a job. And I get by. And that's good enough for me.
A somewhat..dysfunctional family, but who's isn't & we love eachother.
A college degree.
A horse who is not only a pet, but one of the most important parts of my life.
In the spirit of July 4th, I have freedom to wake up in the morning and step outside of my apartment and know that I am safe and free to do or be whatever and whoever I want to be.
THESE are the important things. My car may not be a Lexus, my horse may not be a grand prix show jumper, my clothes may not be all designer, my apartment may not be "luxury," and my job may only be part time..but that's okay. There will always be things that we don't have that we'd like for our own, and there will always be someone who has more than us that we may see green for a while...but as long as we also have these moments when we're walking in the hallways of the safe and sound apartments we rent, carrying laundry and quarters, I think wanting something isn't so bad.
'Cuz afterall...someday I'll have a house..and a yard..and a dog..
Everyone, have a fun and SAFE weekend celebrating our country's independence!
What a gorgeous post and I agree! I do this quite often. There's a lot I want, but I have everything that is important to me. And that which I have is what I want and truly need in my life to be happy and I wouldn't give up what I have for anything else that I want!
ReplyDeleteoh angie, thank you! i agree completely. for everything i want, i have so much more thats important. im glad you feel the same way- not many people our age have such a knowledge about needs and wants ;)
